Text of a Speech
[from an undated page copy]
BOSTON
You kids sure know how to make an old man feel good.
My wish for all of you is that someday each of you may be as proud and grateful for something as I am at this moment.
You, the Boston Chapter of Prime Timers deserve to be proud. You are the seedling the foundation, the inspiration for our great organization that has grown to 70 chapters and almost 10,000 members.
In going thru my files recently, I found a copy of the very first press notice of Prime Timers. It's short and I’d like to share it with you.

I'd also like to read you the last sentence of our very first newsletter. So you see, we've reached this success by abiding by our foundation pattern.

This trophy belongs to all of you. I consider myself as merely the person who turned on the ignition. It is you and the guys of other chapters who have kept it going. Until tonight I have never understood how someone who is being honored as I have been tonight, can say it is an humbling experience. But as of tonight In understand. I keep looking behind me to see whom it is they are talking about.
I wish I had the words to express my sincere thanks to my good friend up there and to all of you for this honor tonight. But in the best way I know how to express it, I love you all.
