Presidents Message

Congratulations to the PTOD FOUNDATION President, Allen Murdock and Board of Directors, for their successful first fund raiser to build a gay senior community center. Needless to say, if you missed the affair, it was your loss. The event included the FIRST ANNUAL WOODY BALDWIN AWARD (for outstanding service to the senior-gay community) and what better recipient than Woody Baldwin himself, the Founding Father of Prime Timers!

It was an honor for me to present to him the beautiful Baccarat vase which was donated by the Rainbow Cactus Bar and Grill. The eloquent acceptance speech by Woody was a delight. While we sipped our drinks and ate our wonderful dinner, we could hear the wonderful background piano playing by Jimmy LeBeau. An added delight was the singing of "Happy Birthday" to Woody's partner of 34 years, Sean O'Neill. It was indeed a-wonderful evening.

Awards Dinner

Photos by Al Lindstrom and Chuck Caldwell

woody at PTODMore than 200 people gathered in the Mediterranean Room of the Riviera Hotel on Saturday night for the 2nd Annual Woody Baldwin Award Dinner of the Prime Timers of the Desert Foundation.

Receiving this year's awards for outstanding community 'service were Denise Goolsby and Larry Hughes. The awards were presented by Palm Springs City Councilwoman Jeanne Reller-Spurgin.

Woody Baldwin started the Prime Timers many years ago in Austin, Texas where he lives. He addressed the audience Saturday night. Today there are Prime Timers organizations throughout the U.S. and foreign countries.

Angelo Sandri and Jack Malloy Life Partners donated $2,500 to the Foundation in memory of the late AI Berglurid who died in an auto accident and was the Life Partner of Fred Friedman. Jack and Angelo challenged those in attendance to match their gift. Acting as auctioneer, Wayne Patterson started the bidding and within five minutes raised an additional $6,000. The money will go to opening a gay/lesbian senior center.

After dinner entertainment was provided by Austin Ray.

Chiron Rising Gathering
Lifetime Achievement Award
May 25, 1997

During one of the last of the Chiron Rising Gatherings, in Orlando Florida, Woody and Sean were presented a lifetime achievement award for their contribution to the lifes of so many. The tradition of recognizing achievement was continued by the Prime Timers of the Desert group.

As Related by Wayne Patterson:

Several years ago, in Orlando, Florida, I was asked to present to Woody Baldwin and Sean O'Neil a Life Time Achievement Award for all the good  things they have done for so many people.  They were not aware they were going to receive  this Award so for several months I was able to get information from them just by causal conversation.  While I was making the presentation, I saw Woody turn to Sean and ask, how does he know all this about us and how did he find out the things that we have done?

I have been a lucky person all of my life and have done some things that I am proud of but I will have to say presenting that award to those two deserving people is right at the top of the list.  I feel so honored and blessed to have known and Woody and the late Sean for so many years.
